Merge PDF

To merge PDF files, add them below in the order you want them combined: pdf-lib joins them in your browser into a single PDF you can download. The files are never uploaded.

About the Merge PDF tool

You can merge PDF files entirely in your browser — no software to install, no file upload, and no account required. The conversion runs on the pdf-lib and pdf.js libraries, running as plain JavaScript directly on your device.

Common uses

  • Combining a cover letter, CV and certificates into one application file
  • Joining scanned pages that were saved as separate PDFs
  • Putting together invoices or reports for one submission

How merging works

Pages are copied into the new PDF exactly as they are — text stays selectable and nothing is re-compressed, so there's no quality loss. Files are merged in the order you add them; remove one with its × button and add it again to change the order.

Each file can be up to 200MB. Document-level extras such as bookmarks may not carry over.

How to merge PDF files privately

Every step below runs on the pdf-lib and pdf.js libraries, running as plain JavaScript inside this browser tab. Your .pdf file is never uploaded to a server — there's no network request carrying it anywhere.

  1. Add your PDF files

Drag and drop, or click to select, your files (.pdf). They're read straight from disk into browser memory — no upload step exists.

  2. Merge locally

FreePrivateConvert does this with the pdf-lib and pdf.js libraries, running as plain JavaScript, entirely within this browser tab.

  3. Download the result

Save your new file. It only ever existed in this tab's memory — closing the tab without downloading discards it completely.

Troubleshooting

"File isn't a valid PDF (or is password-protected)"
Password-protected PDFs can't be merged. Open the file in a PDF reader, save an unprotected copy, and add that instead.
Files are in the wrong order
Remove the misplaced file with its × button, then add it again — new files go to the end of the list.

FAQ

Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are read and processed inside this browser tab and never leave your device. You can confirm it in your browser's developer tools: the Network tab shows no upload.
Does it reduce quality when you merge PDF files?
No. Pages are copied into the new PDF exactly as they are: text, images and vector graphics are not re-encoded. Document-level extras such as bookmarks may not carry over.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes: 200MB per file, and you can add several files at once. There's no account and no limit on how many files you convert.
